Made by Illinois Watch Co., in Springfield, Illinois; the Washington Watch Co. was a "fictitious company", a private label brand that Illinois placed on some of its watches. Most of these watches were manufactured for Montgomery Ward stores beginning of the 1900's.
The Illinois Watch Co. was one of the premier American watch manufactures. It was founded on December 23, 1870, in Springfield, Illinois by John C. Adams, John Whitfield Bun, and various additional financiers. Twenty years later, Jacob Bunn, Jr. took over and ran the company until his death in 1926.
From NAWCC.com "The majority of American watch manufactured offered customized movements with special engraved markings and dials for special orders." Private labels were typically produced in small batches, from large mail-order companies to small independent local jewelers. Private label watches offered an effective way to bring prestige and marketability to a jewelry product line.
Illinois Watch Co. was not behind to see the good reception that wristwatches received during WWI and felt the time has come for expanded wristwatch manufacturing. Without a doubt, the company maintained an obsession for every detail, producing timepieces that are not just exciting, but also elegant and extraordinarily well-crafted.

We have today a STUNNING and UNIQUE timepiece, a vintage Washington wristwatch, made by Illinois Watch Company. The serial number and the caliber grade indicate that this watch is dated from 1914. A very UNIQUE watch, an original private label, Illinois wristwatch.
It is a manual wind watch with a caliber grade 35, 15 jewels movement, made in Springfield, U.S.A.
From the "decorative era", a beautiful 31.4mm square/cushion case, engraved bezel and sides and fancy lugs design.
After 100 years, it still has a the original white ceramic dial with bold Arabic Numerals and minute marks, matching hands. The sub dial is located at 6. Also, the dial is signed "WASHINGTON WATCH CO."
This watch is coming with a vintage brown leather strap.
It is a very attractive looking watch, a very unique timepiece. It is in good condition, runs very well and it keeps great time!

This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust light when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended.
